Because "put it where it looks nice" wasn't working — and every other plant app gave the same generic advice.

Whenever we brought a new plant home, the placement question was basically vibes. Living room shelf? Kitchen windowsill? The corner where the ficus already sits? We picked whatever looked good, then wondered why some plants sulked while their identical twin two rooms over thrived.

And when a plant did start to struggle, every app we tried defaulted to the same script: adjust watering, check the light. Nothing about the actual symptom we could see. No memory of what we'd tried last week. No sense of what our home actually looks like.

Hiring a plant coach was expensive, and honestly we didn't want someone telling us what to do. We wanted an app we could trust. So we built one.

Home tab showing sun position and each window's live light level
Unique to Planterra

Sun mapping that actually knows your rooms.

Point your phone through each window once — Planterra captures the compass direction and tracks the sun's real path through your home from that day on. It knows which window peaks at 12:45 PM, which room slowly loses light in winter, and which of your six spots is best for a Monstera.

No other plant app does this. Because no other plant app knows your specific home.

Plant Doctor chat showing a real diagnosis
A consultant, not a chatbot

Ask the Plant Doctor. It remembers.

Every plant has a "patient card" — a running record of what's been diagnosed, what you've tried, what actually worked. The Doctor reads it before every consultation, so you never have to start over.

Yellow leaves? Suspicious spots? Chat, send a photo, get an answer grounded in your plant's actual history — not a copy-paste from the internet.

Would you put a plant in a bathroom without windows?

Some spots that look bright are actually dim. Some corners you'd never consider are perfect for a shade-loving plant. Point your phone at any spot — Planterra reads the actual light level (in lux) and suggests plants that would love it there.

Discover

Point your camera anywhere and see plants that would thrive in that exact light. Real recommendations, not "top 10 easy plants."

🌦️

Weather-driven care

Outdoor plants get watering reminders that adapt to real forecasts. Heat wave means more water. Heavy rain skips today's reminder.

📖

Atlas

Snap plants you spot on walks, hikes, and holidays. Build a personal journal of every plant you've noticed, with location.

Three steps. Then you're set.

01

Add a plant

Take one photo. Planterra identifies the species and sets a care schedule that fits it.

02

Map your windows

Walk to each window and tap once. Planterra learns your home's light in a minute per window.

03

Grow at your pace

Reminders adapt to your weather. The Doctor remembers your plant's history. You keep learning.

An app that trusts you back.

Planterra isn't a bossy expert. It's a consultant that answers when you ask, and steps back when you don't. It learns from you and gets better with time, instead of nagging you for engagement.

No feeds. No ads. No account required. Your plants live on your device, not in a marketing database. When you export your data, it's yours to keep — and when you delete the app, it's actually gone.

Common questions.

Is it free?

Yes — the free tier includes plant identification, 1 tracked plant, 2 Doctor consultations per week, and 1 mapped window. Pro (€5.99/month or €39.99/year, billed via Apple) unlocks unlimited plants, unlimited Doctor consultations, and full window mapping. New users get 7 days of Pro free to try everything.

Do I need to create an account?

No account, no sign-up, no email required. Just install and start. Your plants live on your phone; we don't have a server that stores your data.

What about privacy?

Plant photos are sent to Anthropic (the AI) only for identification and Doctor chats, and are not retained. Your location is sent to a public weather API to fetch conditions. Everything else lives on your device. No ads, no analytics, no tracking. Read the full privacy policy.

Does it work outdoors too?

Yes. Mark a plant as living outdoors and Planterra switches to weather-driven care — more frequent watering during heat waves, skipped reminders after heavy rain, plus species-specific advice from the Doctor about seasonal outdoor suitability.

What makes Planterra different from other plant apps?

Most plant apps stop at identification and generic reminders. Planterra adds two things nobody else does: real sun mapping for YOUR windows (the app learns your home's actual light over time), and a memory-based Doctor that keeps a patient card for every plant, so you never re-explain the situation.

Which iPhones does it support?

iOS 26.5 or later. iPhone only for now — iPad and Apple Watch versions may follow if there's demand.

What if the plant identifier gets it wrong?

You can re-identify from the plant detail screen — take a fresh photo and pick the right species. Your care history stays intact. The AI gives you a confidence score and alternatives too, so wrong guesses are a one-tap fix.
